Job description

What you will be doing in this role:

Do you know how to organize your time efficiently? Are you a hard worker with a great sense of responsibility? Are you a self-starter with a strong initiative with hands-on mentality? The controller is a new position within Smiler. You are taking control of the finance department. You will be part of building the financial foundation for the ambitious future of Smiler.
On a monthly basis you are responsible for the controlling process. Monitoring and managing budgets, liquidity and cash management are your main responsibilities. One of your key tasks is preparing various reports and analysis. Periodically you discuss the results with the Head of Operations.
You will be working with internal and external stakeholders. You will work closely with an external accounting office and guide them during the accounting process. You perform internal controls regarding the financial and accounting processes.


About your team:

As the Financial Controller you are part of the Operations team and reporting to the Head of Operations (who is responsible for Legal, Finance, HR and Operations). You are the main responsible person for Finance and will be in close contact with the founders of Smiler as a sparring partner.


Your key responsibilities:

  • You are responsible for controlling, monitoring and managing budgets, liquidity and cash management
  • You are responsible for preparing various reports and analysis
  • You have self-ability to bring in new ideas to get the finance department to the next level
  • You are responsible for internal control
  • You and your team are responsible to maintain contact with internal and external stakeholders
  • You and your team are responsible for structuring all financial processes
  • You and your team are responsible for monthly invoicing of all venues, partners and photographers
  • You and your team are responsible for delivering a monthly updated P&L and forecast to the management team and investors

Job requirements

What you are able to bring to the table:

  • You have at least a bachelor degree in finance/controlling/accounting with more than 3 years’ experience (preferably in a startup/scaleup company)
  • You have experience with financial reporting and project administration
  • You have experience with different kind of programs (Exact Online is a pre)
  • You’ll blow us away with your strong financial skills
  • You are also result-oriented, accurate, flexible, communicative and cost-conscious
  • You are a self-starter with a hands-on mentality. You’re not afraid to start before you are ready, to learn new skills and to aim for progress, not perfection.
