What you will be doing in this role:

In the role of Lead Engineer, you will be translating our product vision into a technical design. You’ll make sure the architecture of the software is scalable, secure and performant. You’ll fulfill the leading role in all software development at Smiler and will be working closely with our CPO (founder) and our development teams. With the help of tools such as GitLab and Jira, you’ll monitor progress and assist your colleagues during the development of new features. Besides managing the development progress, you will be writing code and doing code reviews as well. Your code will lay the foundation of the Smiler software stack for now, and the future.

As the Lead Engineer, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team combining roles such as Product Owners, Designers, Backend and Frontend Developers, and Data Specialists.
The Lead Engineer reports and works closely with the Chief Product Officer.

Your key responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for the technical design and software architecture of the Smiler software stack. Your underpinning knowledge will form the basis of our software stack - for now and the future;
  • Facilitate developers with the guidance they need to make sure the software projects they work on fit in the Smiler stack;
  • Translating product vision into technical designs;
  • Setting up timelines, managing sprints and leading project management across Smiler software development projects;
  • Review code and make sure that new features match the product vision and our security and performance; standards;
  • Optimizing and improving existing software.

Job requirements

What you are able to bring to the table:

  • 5+ years of software development experience, ideally in a startup environment;
  • Excellent understanding of modern web technologies, architectures and technical design;
  • We are working with e.g. AWS, React, Django Rest, Kubernetes, Celery, Redis
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English;
  • Agile Development Methodology (e.g. Scrum/Kanban) as well as the ability to think on your feet and accept change as a constant;
  • A real team player that lives by the motto: “Smiler > Team > Self”;
